Our own residence, and winner of a 2003 Good Brick Award from the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance, this circa 1885 Gulf Coast Victorian home was renovated for the first time beginning in spring of 2000. Most of the work to the original structure was done personally, and an addition in 2002 doubled the size of the structure from 900 to 1800 SF was performed by Chuck Bosch of In-Site Design Build Studio. The addition maintains a discreet presence at the street and a delicate connection to the existing historic structure. The interior was completely renovated to accommodate a 21st century lifestyle, while every existing detail in trim, both interior and exterior, was painstakingly restored. The addition was fitted with period window trim salvaged from area tear-downs, and the entire ground floor has original or salvaged wide plank longleaf pine flooring, now extinct. The connection from old to new was made with a glass enclosed porch area, recalling the original side porch that had been enclosed in the early 1930's. This simple move provides abundant light and circulation at the core of the house near the kitchen, and provides access to a small rear courtyard on the narrow lot.
