A small compound in West University is anchored by a salt-box bungalow, ca. 1940, that has been the core of the family for more than 30 years. With a mandate to maintain footprint and square footage, KGA, Inc., interior designer, and FRAMEwork design sought to alter the second floor into a meaningful and highly functional office and master bath relaxation suite in lieu of the empty nests of two successful 20-somethings. Custom millwork and storage in stained mahogany throughout tailors the complex geometry of this story-and-a-half home with multiple dormers and unique alcoves for every possible function. At the rear of the house, a screened porch in stained mahogany with herringbone oak ceilings organizes the backyard activity, frames the views of the pool and landscape, and gently skirts two important trees raised from seedlings.
